Neutral Pint — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 20, 2026
Neutral Pint ("the app", "we", "our") is an iOS app developed by Joshua Wilburne ("the developer") that helps users find nearby pubs that are within walking distance for a given calorie budget. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how, and why.
If you have any questions about this policy, contact: joshwilburne@gmail.com.
TL;DR
- We do not have user accounts and we do not run servers that store your data.
- Your profile information (height, weight, sex, unit preference, pint preference) is stored only on your device.
- We use your approximate location only while you're using the app to find nearby pubs. We do not track, log, or retain your location.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not use IDFA or any tracking identifier.
- We send your coordinates to Google's Places and Routes APIs to fetch pub listings and walking distances. Those requests are subject to Google's privacy practices.
- We do not sell personal information.
1. Information the app handles
1.1 Information stored on your device only
The app stores a small user profile on your device in standard iOS local storage (UserDefaults). This profile can include:
- Height
- Weight
- Sex / biological sex (used for a basal calorie estimate)
- Unit preference (metric / imperial)
- Pint type and serving-size preference
- Onboarding completion state
This information never leaves your device. The developer has no access to it. It is removed when you delete the app.
1.2 Location information
When you tap "Find pubs", the app asks iOS for your current location using the system-standard "While Using the App" permission. The app uses this location for one purpose: to query nearby pubs and estimate walking distances.
- The app does not track your location in the background.
- The app does not store your location after the query completes.
- The app does not transmit your location to the developer.
- Your coordinates are sent to Google's Places API and Routes API as part of the pub-search request (see §2).
You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Neutral Pint.
1.3 Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, calendar, or any other personal content.
- We do not use HealthKit.
- We do not use any advertising identifier (IDFA), device identifier, or cross-app tracking identifier.
- We do not use analytics SDKs or crash-reporting SDKs that transmit personal data.
2. Third-party services
The app calls the following Google APIs to provide core functionality:
- Google Places API — used to find pubs near your current location. Each request includes your coordinates and search parameters. Google receives and processes those requests under its own privacy terms.
- Google Routes API — used to estimate walking distance and time between your location and a pub. Each request includes the relevant coordinates.
We do not control and are not responsible for Google's data practices. Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
We do not use any other third-party SDKs, analytics providers, advertising networks, or tracking services.
3. Legal bases and your rights
Because all profile data is stored locally and we have no servers collecting personal information about you, most data-subject rights (access, deletion, portability) are fulfilled by your control of your own device:
- Access your data: open the app; the only data tied to you is the profile you entered.
- Delete your data: delete the app, or use the in-app settings (if/when a "reset profile" option is provided) to clear your profile.
- Withdraw consent for location: revoke location permission in iOS Settings at any time.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA/CPRA — but because we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined, no opt-out is required.
4. Children
Neutral Pint is not directed to children. The app is intended for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction (18+ in most regions, 21+ in the United States). We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
5. Security
Because the developer does not operate servers that store your data, the primary security boundary is your device itself and Apple's sandboxing of app data. Network requests to Google's APIs are made over HTTPS/TLS.
6. Changes to this policy
If material changes are made to this policy, the "Last updated" date above will be revised and an updated version will be posted at the same URL. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to highlight them in-app.
